CRASHING CIARA'S 22nd BIRTHDAY:

Lights, Camera, Action... In comes Ciara in all her beauty!

Though I did love her sequined gold dress and her goldish blonde hair, I must say, something was off...Anyway, Ciara's exclusive party was held at a little lounge called RUNWAY located in Midtown Manhattan on Friday night. The Golden Child and I attended.

The room was full of black, white, and silver balloons with a multi-color runway in the middle of the floor with V.I.P. sections surrounding it. The atmosphere was a more mellow laid back mood then your typical shallow over the top industry party. I assumed this was because it was an resvp only affair. Many of the guests were either in fashion, television, or music industry making it easy to mingle and act important. When Ciara entered the club she went straight to her V.I.P. section where she followed up with a 10 minute photo op from everyone. I give her much credit because she was very friendly and polite to all the people. We were even able to cop some picks..sorry for the quality, this is what you get when this is the only camera-phone you can afford as an intern lol---

The party started to liven up once she came into the building. From the drunk to the sober everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Even the seven foot drag queen who was sashaying all around the room in her/his 5 inch heels. She was FABULOUS! At one point in the night Ciara came out of her V.I.P. section and got onto the runway and danced on the stage for about 4 songs. Waving and saying hi to everyone and taking pictures. I actually am a fan of Ciara's so what I have to say about her is not from hate.

I am soo upset that she looks like she was 90 lbs wet. [shout out to the big guy with the sunglasses in the picture on the left, he knows Joel Ortiz, GC] I mean the dress was nice, but she didn't look great in her dress like other times you see her. It looks like she dropped too much weight and she needs to be on the front of the "Life & Stlyes " magazines covers with the rest of them. Though they say television adds on weight I don't believe it can make you look appealing than appaling. See in this industry theres always a need to be thin, but when is thin too thin and scary looking? I'm not saying she doesn't eat or have any type of disorder. She just doesn't look like she is suppose to be that size.
I hoped that she ate the beautiful cake that they gave her.

Crashing the Alicia Keys Red Star Soul Showcase @ Spotlight:

So by now ya’ll waiting to hear our first hand account of the show. Well, we can’t exactly give you that—but we can give you the first hand account of all the happenings that went on OUTSIDE as we waited to get it—after an 1hr and half, we never did—*sigh* the life of an intern.

So word on the street was to be there by 8pm, now normally Spotlight on Tuesdays is an informal who’s who of the music and entertainment industry. Video Hoes sashay around looking for the next big director, (or the next blowjob in the bathroom lol). Power chicks with their Cartier briefcases sip martinis and wanna-be ceos, shout into their Bluetooth earpieces—I call them ear roaches.

On a normal night, a guy might have a little trouble getting in, but on the normal its pretty easy, not too many “outsiders” know about it yet and even so it probably wouldn’t be their kind a place ie—Sean John Women’s Launch.

But this night was very different—It was the Red Star Soul Showcase feat. Alicia Keys and SECURITY WAS TIGHT. As Blue Diamond and Myself arrived there was already an aggravated mob forming. At first it seemed like it just might be doable. Two cute girls from a record label—no problem right? WRONG.

Now my tipster told me it should be like any other Tuesday at Spotlight, but the harsh reality set in when we saw green and white wristbands… 20 minutes had passed and there was still no sign of hope. Then we saw our VP of A&R attempt to get in. In the entertainment industry, pass or no pass, ticket or no ticket if you know a guy/girl with JUICE you can virtually get in anywhere with them, (unlike Hollywood where they down right disrespect Yo ass at the door). So we waited about another 15 minutes as we saw our VP of A&R REJECTED!!!???? We hear the bouncer shout “Everyone with tickets—You can’t get in, go home, everyone on a guestlist, OTHER than Red Star, form a line over here.” Our VP said Fuck It and left (we shoulda done the same thing.) But we wanted to get you guys the story—and we also wanted to see our girl Alicia!!

So we eaves dropped and learned that the only guest list they were letting in was MBK entertainment (Alicia Keys’ manager’s company…) We would have just shouted that out--but they were checking that guest list HARRRRD! After about an hour and fifteen minutes as we heard the soft melody of “No One” being played from the inside—we pretty much gave up…
BUT NOT WITHOUT SEEING NEYO’s BESTFRIEND ATTEMPT TO GET IN AS WELL!!!!

You cannot mistake that face. We saw her, in person, in the FLESH! Tryin her dambdest to get in. She got in as far as I know, with no luck. And for the record everyone, it definitely was a woman…a very ugly animated woman.

Crashing The Sean John Women's Launch Event:

As promised, here is my scoop about the Sean John Women's Launch Event!! First off I must let you know that we were not invit
ed or even on the guest list (my friend and fellow blogger crashed the scene). The lesson of this post, is networking, it's all about who you know, and making those contacts!! You see, we happened to know someone, who knew someone, who just happened to be working the door and they let us just walk on by!!

So we went on in, and the event was basically a typical "urban/entertainment industry" event. First off, DJ Coco Chanel was spinning some hot shit. You know I expected the event to be all "Diddied" out--you know playing 500 Bad Boy Songs and playing, "Bad Boy For Life" like 8 times in a row.

One thing
you need to know about attending industry events is that it is probably one of the most superficial things you'll ever experience in your life. I'm talking premium yaki, floating all around, women with eyelashes the Lord didn't give them, people stunting and profiling, ballers, and of course the wanksters. At industry events if you're a woman going there for networking purposes and just to chill, you will have a hard time. We walked in as two black women, and all we got were stares from other black women sizing us up, trying to figure out if we were important enough for them to talk to. It was such a shame, because the people who were actually chill and cool, were the "Zesty men" and the "white women". Of course it's not to be taken to personally, because it's all about competition, who can seize the moment first!

For men at these industry events, it's so much easier to network and make contacts. Why??? Because men aren't busy sizing up the other men in the room trying to figure out if his jeans are Citizens or Rock and Republic or if his shoes are Fendi or Prada! Ya feel me? They just go grab a few drinks, introduce their friends to other mutual friends and they chill and make a new connect! It's that simple for men. So women have to go that extra mile just to be take seriously. As unfortunate as it is, sometimes you have to put on those heels and curl those lashes but I will say this, PLEASE do not allow the industry to change you and the morals by which you live!!! Putting on the pumps, adding some yaki, and curling the lashes might get you in the door, but you have to at least know your shit!!

But enough about the disappoint aura/vibe of the event, let's get down to the nitty gritty of who was there! Cutie Quinten Richardson (NBA) was in the house, [shout out to my man Mardy Collins of the knicks in the background lol, he didn't get no shine], cocky no neck Bernard Hopkins was chilling all night not acting like a big celebrity, Irv Gotti and his brother Lorenzo stepped in with Mike Kyser (if you don't know who he is, I'll fill you in on industry heavy hitters in a follow up post), Jaslene (from top model), Anthony Anderson (whom I was utterly unimpressed to see), Diddy of course, Mama Diddy, Keisha Combs (his sis), Lauren London (looking absolutely FABULOUS), Cassie (snore), Some Fine Male Sean John Models, and some NFL/NBA dudes were all in the house.

A few last notes about the event, it was an OPEN BAR, that seemed to always run out of juice! And the place was too small for that amout of people, weaves were frizzin' up! Diddy himself left his VERY OWN EVENT early, to head down to Howard's Homecoming and party it up at CLUB LOVE, where one of my close friends saw him at around 1am surrounded by his Rick Ross look a like body guard!! So what I'm saying is....really how important was this event to "Didders"? Lastly, Beyonce' was allegedly on the guest list, but obviously didn't show because she's touring in Moscow.

So when attending or crashing an industry event:

Do: Look the Part
Do: Peep the scence and the Vibe
Do: Prepared to be snubbed by the other women in the room
Do: Prepare to shut the rude ass fool down that asks you something rude and obscene

Don't: Feel overwhelmed, because half of the people there are probably just like you
Don't : Feel pressure to change or use your sexuality (male and female)

I hope this post has been entertaining and informing!! Lemme know what you think. Email me @ thabside@gmail.com address it to: The Pink Panther

~peace and love~

How To:

Get In The Game

Yes we all know that is good to go to school and learn your craft, but in the Entertainment Industry--FORGET ABOUT IT. That degree is just a ticket to perhaps get your foot in the door. The rest is left up to you and a little bit of luck. You might as well put that in your back pocket and save it for later. It's all about the "HUSTLE"

In the Entertainment Industry (especially Music, Fashion and Magazines) it's not what you know but who you know. We all hate this word, but its all about--NETWORKING!!!

Although some may accredit a long history of sexual favors to their success, that is not the case at all! What really counts is how you blend with whomever you work with, and above all, while interning, DO NOT--I REPEAT DO NOT show any attitude. You are paying dues, so s

It took me many years to get into the game, I started Freshman Year in College--START AS EARLY AS YOU CAN! I received the pivotal opportunity from someone in my college class that already worked at a major label.

REAL TALK:

Executive don't respect the standing outside the building passing out your demo scenario. They just look at those people as stalkers or groupies. Nowadays you have to go even harder. I have so many demos sitting by my feet everyday. The best time to try to be noticed is at events, friendly functions, and SEIZE THE MOMENT, but don't STALK or Be Overly Aggressive.

If you're going to stalk anyone--once you're interning by the way--STALK Human Resources. The people who you should be attacking is the Human Resources department.. Most executives are so busy on cloud 9 to pay attention to you wanting to get in the game. The assistants, hr people, and street teams are mostly the ones who look for people on a constant basis. Though can be bullsh** too.... Be weary of empty promises Ladies and Gentleman empty. In Entertainment, no one will look out for you but yourself.

Recommendations:

The B-Side Blog

Because we'll try our best to give you consistent updates on where to get it in!

Friends or Family
Nowadays when dealing with corporate companies, friends will get you in easier than family because of nepotism guidelines. Be a good friend/family member and realize you may need more than a good word from them to get you in. But when they can...Its SWEEET!

Meetings and Functions
Be careful. At events sometimes people are just there to party and have a good time. People in the entertainment industry work 20 hr days and the only thing they want to do is kick back and let off some steam with their already established collegues. The best way to go about getting those connections is keep going to these events (Events, parties, galas, college functions, industry panels). The more the people see you out and about, the more they'll, A. Remember your face (and remember you on a good note), B. Think you're well-connected and trust that you can do the job and C. think you have drive.
