The Lowdown:
Puppets or Masters..... Who Really Makes Money?

As we all see most of the time the artists have the big houses, expensive cars, and blinging jewelry. We see the flashy lifestyle displayed on t.v. and videos and many people think that these people are really making that money. I am here to let you know it is all a front. The label is who REALLY gets all the money not the artist. The artist are the puppets and the executives are the masters. Artist really don't see money until they go platinum and even then not really if they go over budget.

This game is really serious and is ruthless when it comes to MONEY!

For those of you who don't know, an artist advance is a BIG check that could r
ange from $20,000 to a million dollars that is made out to an artist. This is money that the company invests in the artist's project which can include recording time, travel, room and board, guest appearances on the album, plus photo and videoshoots. All of this money HAS TO BE PAID BACK! In certain instances, a record company may give and artist a signing bonus and these monies do not have to be paid back, alas Papoose 1.5 Million Dollar Deal

But in any event, An artist doesn't see money until they go on tour or do shows--in the music industry we call em PAID DATES cause thats when the artists gets cash in hand. But don't get it twisted because they still have to pay managers, lawyers, and so on. As you enter this world I would research and study exactly what field of entertainment you will like to enter. When that is even done go back and pick another aspect of it because it is smart to have a back up plan. The only b
enefit artist receive is fame which allows them to put themselves out there for other opportunities and ventures.

Most TOP LEVEL executives are the ones in the music and fashion industry who
live the good life. They are like pimps in a way. They give you money and put you out there for the world then collect the money once you make a profit and only give you a percentage. That is the way the game works! Why do you think TLC went bankrupt off of "CrazySexyCool" and that album went more then just platinum. Why do you think so many artists go outside their genre and into other outlets to make money. It's a Hustle!

I leave you with this list of puppets and masters:

Until Next time.....

HOW TO....
Deal With "Cruella Deville" and "The Asshole":

So you've got the internship that you've hoped for and you're excited. You feel like Kanye West, "Ya Can't Tell Me Nothing." You figure that the people around will be welcoming and help you to become assimilated with the culture. Well for the most part you're right. There will be a few employees that will welcome you and attempt to teach so that your internship will be a valuable experience.

But be PREPARED to encounter these two characters: "Cruella Deville" and "The Asshole". Now I've witnessed these two characters first hand, and it's so sad that they exisit. Cruella Deville is an older woman maybe in her early 30's to mid 30's and she thrives on making your life as an intern, pure HELL. She's downright mean and nasty. She takes advantage of you and forces you to work longer hours that you initially agreed to. She believes that interns are "grunts" and that "they should clean toilets". And that my friends is a direct quote from a "Cruella" I've seen fellow interns work with!!

"The Asshole" is usually a male that is in his late 30's to early 40's but walks around telling everyone he's 28! He usually walks around the office like he's Prince Akeem in Coming to America. If you attempt to say Hi and be friendly or even speak when not spoken to, he will look at you like you've lost your rabid ass mind and proceed to try and break you down into tiny little pieces. His moto is that "interns get absolutely NO RESPECT, I will only speak to them after they've been around for 3 years or more". Now tell me who the heck wants to be an intern for 3 years? This is because "The Asshole" has probably been in the same position for the last 10 years and has no plans of moving forward. *An asshole usually goes by an alias or flashy nickname.

So how do you deal with "Cruella Deville" and "The Asshole"? Simple.

First and foremost your first week of the internship should be the "scope out week", just pay attention and try to observe which employees fit the two characteristics listed above.

Secondly, make sure you do an outstanding job for the person you are interning for, [This can get messy if you HAVE to intern for an Asshole or Cruella]

Third, ignoring people always works! Ignore these fools! Plain and simple!

Now if you are interning for these characters you should:
1. Do your Best Work

2. Do NOT be taken advantage of; stand up for yourself without making a scene

3. Show you've got heart and tough skin, because if you've got neither the entertainment/fashion industry is NOT FOR YOU!

That's all for now, keep watch and send questions!

New Poll: Head to Get Ahead?

What up everybody, we got a new poll for you, we're looking to find out the following:

How many of you looking to get into the Entertainment Industry would compromise yourselves sexually in order to get ahead in the game?

Now stop before you think about this question. Be honest. If there was an opportunity that arose, whether it be getting a raise, a new job or a business connection, who would be swayed to get out their dreams?

In General, the Entertainment Industry is one of the weirdest places to get into. Where its common to see your co-workers drunk. Where via blackberry and other advances in technology people have access to you 24/7. Where it is not uncommon for sexual harassment and uncomfortable remarks to be made...especially about and against women.

More on this topic later from some one of my constituents,

Be Blessed,
